tim holtz: new idea-ology

Sssideaology
Brand new Tim Holtz Idea-ology is here! Today I am sharing a fun new project that was featured over on Tim’s You Tube Live today, a rainbow themed (of course) Vignette Card File. This file uses so much new paper goodness…If you have not checked out the new paper packs and ephemera you are in for a treat there is so much colorful goodness to be found in each one.

To start creating this file, I laid out my Backdrops Volume 5 paper pack and all of the Palette Ephemera pack in rainbow order. I will go over each of the cards in the file later in the post. To create the Vignette File, I removed the hardware from the front of the box and set it aside. I covered some Mixed Media Heavystock with the new Palette Collage Paper then trimmed it and adhered it to the card file using Distress Collage Medium. Then I put the hardware back on. For the little label on the front, I used a Rub on from the Labeled Remnant Rubs

Here’s a peek at ALL of the cards in rainbow order. For the very first piece in my file that looks like it is painted, I used a transparency from the Transparent Layers Pack. For the rest of the inserts, I created a “set” of 4 cards/envies using the Idea-ology File Cards in each color family of the Backdrops Volume 5 papers…these are so wonderful I have already ordered a few extra packs!

Let’s start with the first type of card. For these I used the tabbed card from the File Card Pack and covered it with paper. I selected one of the new Photomatic Photos for each (these are such a fun size) and gave it a little color with Distress Watercolor Pencils. I added some Palette Ephemera to each pack in the corresponding color, and a new Quote Chip Label that I also colored with the Distress Watercolor Pencils. For some of the cards, I added something (like a butterfly or flower) from the Ephemera pack that will stick out of the file to give it extra interest.

For the second set of cards I used the same papers, added a corresponding piece of Palette Ephemera with some stitching. For the tabs on these File Cards I simply cut a piece of Sparkle Kraft Stock using different shapes from the Abstract Elements Sizzix dies, colored each one with Alcohol Ink, and attached them to the card with a tiny attacher for a touch of whimsy…

The third set of cards are the tiny pockets…I covered each one in Backdrops Volume 5 paper and added some more bits of Palette Ephemera and then a one of the new metal Word Tags that I painted to coordinate with the papers.  I cut a tag out of the papers with a “solid” color side using my Sizzix Tag dies to go into each of the envelopes. I also used Distress Spray Stains to color some of the fabric Stitched Scraps and adhered them to each tag with Distress Collage Medium to give the entire project added texture.

For the final set of cards, I simply picked larger pieces of paper from the Palette Ephemera pack and then backed them with some of the remaining pieces of paper that I had left.

I love the happy colors in this piece! I don’t think I will ever get tired of using them. If rainbow is not your jam, it would be fun to create this box to celebrate just your favorite colors too…
